1. Double Cleanse: Removing your make up with the likes of an oil or balm, is a simple and effective way to remove the toughest of lipsticks and mascaras before trying to clean your face with that expensive cleanser you just brought. Not only does it leave your skin feeling super clean and fresh it actually lets your targeted cleanser do its job ! Double cleansing also prevents product wastage, using a balm or an oil can stop you over using you cleanser trying to remove the your make up.

2. Using your hands to apply your foundation can actually cause your foundation to oxidise ! Believe it or not, using your hands to apply foundation will 9 times out of 10 cause your foundation to oxidise, due to the oils on your hand, this mixes not necessarily blends the make up, additionally making the “perfect” colour match the professional matched you with to become orangey or for that expensive foundation you just brought to seperate on the skin only minutes after it's been applied.  

3. There are actually two types of acne. Firstly the acne and breakouts everyone gets when going through puberty and through your teenage years is bacterial! So you'll find your skin is clogged with congestion and blocked pores and these will usually come to a head whether it’s a blackhead or pustule pimple. Secondly, adults can suffer from congestion just like teenagers but in different forms, adult acne is a more inflamed lump beneath the skin that never really comes to a head ! (this is the kind of pimple that hold it’s own heartbeat) All congestion and breakouts need similar kind of ingredients when it comes to using the correct skin care products for these uses. For teenage bacterial acne, it’s important to look for ingredients such as Nicinimide and salycilic acid. Nicinamide is a great anti bacterial and antibiotic for the skin, and salycilic acid gets deep into pores and dissolves the oil to prevent further breakouts and reduce the signs of enlarged pores. Adult acne skin care products can be Too stripping when it comes to teenage skin, as we get older our skin process slows down and we need more resurfacing and exfoliating products to prevent congestion in order to help our cell turn over these products contain lactic acids aswell as salycilic acid to help resurface and smooth skin and reduces the appearance of pores and preventing further breakouts while dissolving excess oils on the skin.

4. Your skin is what you eat ! Now I know this one sounds like something your mother would say, But I can tell you she is right ! Fizzy drinks and alcohol can be some of the main causes of acne and breakouts ! This is one tip I always forget. The less water I drink and the more crappy drinks and foods i consume my skin definitely suffers ! Recently I stepped up my skin care routine and was wondering why I was suffering from so much congestion and breakouts still, Not realising this month as been a big one for drinking and take outs.

During my three week study break I was lucky enough to spend three days of the break alongside the team at the Caci Clinic Havelock North as apart of my Practicum placement. I can't thank the team at Caci Havelock North for welcoming me into their team for the short period of three days, everyone made me feel as though I was apart of their team from the minute I stepped through the door.

Firstly I choose to attend the Caci clinic for my practicum placement with the intention of a insight to the Apperence medicine place of work, Adding nursing to my career has been in the back of mind since I started my study of Beauty and Body Therapy, although I hadn't quite decided if it was everything it was made out to be. Thanks to the Caci clinic everyone in the team provided me with bundles of knowledge in order for me to determine the best understanding of their business and the industry.

During the three days I spent that time dealing with reception duties - bookings, checking clients in and out of the clinic, dealing with phone calls from clients and to clients regarding how they were finding their results and if they had any concerns after their treatment. Filing of paper work. Helping nurses and therapists with room / bed set ups before and after treatments for the clinic to run as smoothly as possible. Along with daily jobs such as refilling products and keeping on top of washing.


In the ways of completing treatments of my own, as the beauty industry is a closed door service and everything is confidential and professional obviously I wasn't able to deal with clients of my own without their consent, I also did not feel comfortable charging the client full price for a treatment being performed by a student who is not fully qualified as clients pay for your time and qualifications. Luckily enough the staff were more than happy for me to perform basic beauty therapy treatments on them. The Caci team made my practise as professional as possible by having me follow their treatment protocol and using their consultation procedure.

Taking my interest into the nursing sides of things, one of their nurses offered me the opportunity to stand in and assist her with two of her Fractional Laser Treatments, with having client consent of course ! I was privileged enough to get both clients consent to stand in with the treatments and cleanse their faces after having the anaesthetic applied prior to the treatment. As the nurse began the treatment she talked the client through the sensation and side affects that may occur after the treatment. She asked me to hold the vacuum as close as possible to the laser head that she will be holding to remove the smoke plumes that happen when ablating the skin.
 The treatment in itself amazed me, such a complex treatment with some amazing benefits of reducing the signs of ageing correcting the tone, firmness, texture and reducing appearance of wrinkles. Pluses of light are passed through the skin, triggering the skin aiding the skins natural healing process. 


After standing in on two treatments it really opened my eyes to how much knowledge there is to learn and the industry is forever evolving, and is absolutely something I aspire to learning and adding to my career in the next few years. Skincare being my main focus and interest my time at The Caci clinic has helped me develop even more of an interest and help me set some big goals for my future.
It is a huge thing to welcome a student into a professional business especially a closed door service and I can't thank the Caci Clinic Havelock North for having me for the period of three days and for providing me with endless amounts of knowledge and experience in such a short period of time.

♡ This life is what you make it. No matter what, you are going to mess up sometimes and it's a universal truth but the good part is you get to decide how you are going to mess it up ♡

The build up to leaving school and deciding what you are going to do next can be extremely daunting whether further study is on the agenda or entering the workforce is more your cup of tea. When I was leaving school I felt so pressured by my teachers pushing me towards university pathway. Trying to decide what I wanted to do for the rest of my life was hard enough let alone how much it was going to cost me and where I was supposed to be living.  There was so much organising and decison making to do in such little time. 

It is really important to take a step back and realise that University is NOT for everyone and there are plenty more options out there and not one option is better than the other. All I can say is take the time you need to decide what YOU want to do ! Do not let anyone guilt trip you or let anyones opinion affect your decison, parents and grandparents can advise you and point you in as many directions as they like but the only person who knows what is best for them is YOU !  

Remember nobody is perfect and people make mistakes it's a part of life and if you change your mind that's okay too. Sometimes you don't know until you try. Life is a beautiful thing get out there and live it !
